What does Site Indicator do?
Site Indicator displays a piece of text in Firefox's status bar to indicate whether you are on a development site or a live site. You tell it what text distinguishes a live site from a development site and it'll check the URL and the page source of the page you are viewing.

Who should use Site Indicator
Web developers, web designers and site testers. Primarily those that develop sites in a local or staging environment before putting the site live.
Why do I need Site Indicator
Have you ever been developing a site and accidentally used the live site to test something, thinking that you were actually on the development site?
Have you ever put something live, tested it and found it all to look great, only to realise a few days later that the page contains references to your local staging area, which is inaccessible to anyone outside of your organisation?
If the answer to either of these is yes, then I hope this extension will help stop those kind of errors.
Problems / FAQ's
How can I change my options? Choose Tools | Addons from the menu, then select Site Indicator and press the options button.
Can I check for more than one item in the URL or the source? Yes, just separate each piece of text with a comma
What version of Firefox do I need? Version 2. Sadly the extension is not compatible for version 1.5 - at least not at the moment, if I get a ton of requests for a 1.5 version, I'll probably do one.
Current Known Issues
- Using the back and forward navigation doesn't update the indicator
